Fred Ewanuick in The Santa Clause 2 (2002)

In this festive sequel to the equally festive The Santa Clause, Santa Clause (played by Tim Allen) is informed of a clause requiring him to be wed within 28 days. If the clause is not fulfilled, he will no longer be able to be Santa, and this year's Christmas may be doomed. This is the story of Santa's search for a Mrs. Clause and a few other side stories too. As to whether or not Santa is successful in his quest, well, I won't spoil it for you, but you can probably guess the outcome.

After having rented The Core last weekend, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of air time given to Fred in this movie. In fact, his are the first face to be seen and the first voice to be heard in the movie. Fred plays the role of a seismic interpreter flying in a plane over the north pole. In the very first scene of the movie, he hears an odd sound in his special earphones. Here are the opening lines of the movie. Meanwhile, Santa's elves are monitoring the approaching plane on their radar. Not wanting their operations to be discovered, Santa and his elves have everyone be quiet, resulting in the cessation of the noise on the seismic interpreter's earphones. But then, suddenly, a groovy version of "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" starts up, thoroughly shocking the interpreter and the rest of the cockpit crew. The cause of this latest mystery is an elf not aware of the temporary noise ban who just turned on a music-playing Santa toy. Once Santa locates this elf and silences the toy, that's the last of the mysterious north pole sounds the seismic interpreter hears, and off the plane flies to continue its journey, leaving the crew wondering what the heck that was, and that's the end of Fred's role in the movie.

Here are some stills from the film:

**Special treat**

Take a look at this guy, playing the role of a thoroughly uncool teacher at a school staff Christmas party in the movie:

If you've seen The Delicate Art of Parking, he should look familiar: it's Gary Jones, who played the role of parking enforcement guru Murray Schwartz! The wardrobe people really hit the nail on the head with the dreadfully unhip sweater he's wearing. It was a nice surprise seeing him in this movie.

I found the movie overall fairly entertaining and would probably have enjoyed it more if I had seen it closer to the Christmas season as opposed to late April and possibly if I had seen its predecessor. In any case, if you're in the mood for an easy-going, light-hearted Christmas movie, and would like the added bonus of getting a good fix of Fred, go and rent The Santa Clause 2.
