Nature has played a significant role in my life. From it I have drawn inspiration for writing, sought refuge from daily insanity, and replenished my sense of awe for life. My vision in photography, too, stems from nature --first from observing the photographic works of artists like Ansel Adams and second, from capturing images I have seen. I have captured "visual haiku" through telephoto photography of nature. I chose telephoto photography for two reasons: to catch an image that may not have been photographed otherwise and to isolate and magnify the moment as much as possible. In haiku the object is to render a moment, to record sensory images with the fewest possible words. Yet, these images can lead us to a moment of awareness that is often missed during our busy lives. Photography and haiku have the ability to halt a moment, to capture it, so that it may be savored gain. While both mediums are powerful, through the synthesis of these two formats, a greater whole can be achieved. |
