In the 1980s Bluebird Toys released a series of toys consisting of vehicles, bases and figures. The story to accompany the toys was basically an over-crowded utopian Earth constructed a scout vessel (The M.A.N.T.A ship) to search for Earths twin planet in the hopes of colonising it after attempts to colonise the other planets in our Solar System meet only with limited success.

The Manta Force story was told in a series of Ladybird books and in an old UK comic called Eagle initially, but later as new lines such as the Karnoids and Stinkoids were introduced the story was told in comics given away free with the toys.
