Private Lessons
It's important to choose a good private teacher.  Here's some questions you can ask private teachers, sort of like a job interview.

1) When and where are the lessons and how much do they cost?

2) How many years have you been playing the flute?

3) What other music activities are you involved in, other than teaching private lessons?

4) What would we do at a lesson?

5) I really want to learn (piccolo/jazz flute/chamber music/whatever).  Is that something that you could teach me?

6) One of the techniques I would like to learn is (vibrato/double tonguing/mulitphonics/circular breathing/whatever).  Could you teach me to do that?  If so, how?

7) What else would you like me to know about yourself or your lessons?

Look for teachers who have been playing the flute for a very long time and are active musicians in their communities.  Note: just because a teacher has been playing for a long time does not automatically make them a good teacher, so It's important to ask questions.  The teacher should be willing to talk about his or her teaching strategies and lessons freely.  Good luck with your search!
