| Romantic Composers Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) France Faure was born in France in 1845. He moved to Paris at age 9 to study music. His teacher was Camille Saint-Saens. He became a church organist and choir director at several different churches, and began to compose music. In 1883 he married Marie Fremiet and they later had two sons. In 1896 Faure became the professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory, and in 1905 he was appointed director. Between 1905 and his resignation in 1920 due to deafness, Faure made many changes and reforms at the Conservatory. He continued composing music until his death in 1924. Faure is known for his unique musical style and beautiful yet restrained melodies. Most famous flute repertoire: "Fantaisie, Op. 79". |
