  Click on the audio link to listen to an audio clip of Shel Silverstein reading The Toy Eater.  Then, click on the video link to see a slide show of some of his poetry.  

  During sustained silent reading you may read more of his poetry or listen to him read poems on CDs from A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk ends at the listening center.


Take the time to introduce Shel Silverstein to your students.  Check out his books from the library.  Let students have time to read his poems.  Play clips from the CDs A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends.  

This activity should be completed in the Computer Lab and can be combined with the Treasure Hunt.  Parent volunteers would be helpful.
