Create Your Own Poems

Your task is create your own version of two "Mr. Smeds and Mr. Spats" and "Arrows", both by Shel Silverstein.  Go to:  http://www.lessonplanspage.com/printables/PLAPoetry-ShelSilversteinFillBlanks14.htm

Work with your helper to write your poems.

Materials: You will need a copy of the poem "Mr. Smeds and Mr. Spats" and "Arrows".  You will also need copies of the fill-in the blank forms.  Please get copies from your teacher.

You will publish your favorite poem using Kid Pix.  Enter your favorite poem and create an illustration.  Here is an example of a class project using Kid Pix.  It should give you some ideas for your poem.

Poetry Quest by Mrs. Kay’s First Grade Class

Students could create a slide show similar to Poetry Quest using their

    own original poetry.

We will view the Kid Pix presentation when everyone is finished.

Parent volunteers are necessary for this activity.  One adult for each three to four students is ideal.  Make sure parents know how to use Kid Pix.

Before starting this activity, read the poems to students and pass out the fill in the blank form and copies of the poems.
