Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles, and VH1's Bands on the Run are among the nominees for the more-music-friendly-than-usual 53rd Annual Emmy Awards.
Barbra Streisand's Timeless (FOX) garnered nods for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Mini-Series, Movie or Special (a category in which she shares company with Springsteen's Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (HBO), Elton John's One Night Only (CBS) and Showtime's Hendrix); Lighting Direction; Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program; Outstanding Music Direction; Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video for a Miniseries, Movie or Special; and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Program.
Springsteen's Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band grabbed nominations for Variety, Music, or Comedy Special; Outstanding Directing for a Variety or Music Program; Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Mini-Series, Movie, or Special; Lighting Direction; Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video for a Miniseries, Movie or Special; and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series.
Other notable music nominations went to VH1 for Cat Stevens Behind the Music (Outstanding Non-Fiction Series), and both ABC and VH1 for The Beatles Revolution and Behind the Music John Lennon: The Last Years (Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Program), respectively.
VH1's hit reality rock-and-roll road show, Bands on the Run, scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Non-Fiction Program as well.
The show featured four unsigned bands -- Harlow, Flickerstick, Soulcracker, and the Josh Dodes Band -- as they toured across the country in a gig competition/road trip. Flickerstick, long underdogs on the show, pulled out a victory in the last episode, which aired Sunday (July 7). A reunion show is scheduled for this Sunday (July 15).
Bands on the Run will compete against Survivor (CBS), Eco-Challenge: Borneo (USA), Road Rules: Maximum Velocity Tour (MTV) and Junkyard Wars (The Learning Channel).
The 53rd Annual Emmy Awards will air live Sept. 16 on CBS. For a full list of nominees, check out www.emmys.com.
