Old Settler Taken From Community:
Mrs. Walter Henriksen, a pioneer of the Arkdale community, passed away at her home Friday morning after being ill for many months. While she had been frail for some time, it was not until she fell and broke her hip about two years ago that she was bedfast most of the time.
Last rites were held at the Arkdale Lutheran church Monday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. O. Johnson officiating. Burial was made in the Strongs Prairie cemetery.
Mrs. Henriksen was born September 29, 1859 in Denmark, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Larson. Her first husband, Jorgen Johnson, preceded her in death many years ago. On March 12, 1889, she was united in marriage with Walter Henriksen, in the same home in which she has lived for 68 years and in which she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Koenecke during her last illness.
She is also survived by a son, William, of Strongs Prairie and six daughters: Mrs. Hannah Jensen, Strongs Prairie; Mrs. Martha Johnson, Claremont, California; Mrs. Marie Steen of Chicago, Indiana; Mrs. Ida Ellis of Franksville; Mrs. Esther Warshauer; and Mrs. Koenecke of the home place. She also leaves fourteen grandhcildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a brother Jens Jorgenson in Denmark."
