welcome on the home page of the Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics

The Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics Foundation - with a unique programe - endeavours to enforce and strenghten peace, love and mutual respect among peoples and nations through dance and music, the most expressive language of humanity.

The first step towards achieving the Foundations purpose was the founding of the Junior-Lyra-, Lyra and Inter Lyra Prize. These are awarded annually for outstanding artistic achievements, based on the opinion of an International Jury.

We launched an International Music Festival in 1998 called

WITH MUSIC AND DANCE FOR A PEACEFUL, BETTER WORLD

which was the successful inauguration of the Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics. After a short preparatory (three months) work, 8 countries were participated. This convinced us of the prospective success of the Five Lyra. From 1998 we are presenting the Lyra-prizes within this international festival.

At a ceremony on September 20, 1998, at the House of Hungarian Cultural Foundation we inaugurated the
FIVE LYRA
MUSIC AND DANCE OLYMPICS

where the Olympic flame was lit and the Five Lyra Flag (symbolising the festival) was raised. For this ceremony, a 130 cm tall, 250 kg bronze, artistic statue was prepared on which the five lyra symbolise the five continents and all their countries. Several TV channels, foreign media and the press covered the event.

We found that there was not any opportunity so far for countries to perform their musical and dance tradition within one world wide cultural event.

Similarly to the sport Olympics, the Five Lyra will be a competition in the various categories of music and dance which will be heard and seen through the media all over the world. The Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics promises to be the biggest music and dance festival, which will be held in every second year in different countries according to the decision of the International Committee.

Just as the Modern Olympics providse the competitors with the opportunity to win honour for themselves and their countries, in music and dance the Five Lyra gives an opportunity for artists to win the Lyra-prize, to become international stars, and to gain honour for themselves and their countries.

Hungary is just too small to finance and realise this programme such magnitude alone. Therefore we are organising an International Five Lyra Committee of the Five Lyra which - according to the charter - offers spiritual, moral and financial support to realise and operate the programme.

Several artists and experts take part on the organisation, to realise the Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics the best possible way.

The Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics is also a charity programme. We would like to use a part of the income in order to help artists in all over the world who need some support and on the other hand to provide new high-skilled artists for the performing art, we stablish an international school where children living under disadvantageous conditions can live and study in a family-like environment.

We would like to open the possibility for artists from all the country to perform and to be awarded the Lyra-Prizes.

We hope you will welcome the idea of the Five Lyra Music and Dance Olympics and would take part in the realisation of this programme, which joins the people of the world together in love and happiness.
