Anchorman had one of the funniest trailers I've ever seen, but for me it turned out to be better than the actual film. The trailer for Talladega Nights, Anchorman's spiritual sequel, wasn't in the same league. Well, Talladega Nights proves that you can't judge a film by its trailer, as it was one of the best comedies I've seen for a while, and it was more consistently funny than Anchorman (although I still love that film's crazy characters). As with any improvisational comedy, it did have some hit and miss moments and some scenes felt stretched out too long, but most of the gags hit the spot. Sacha Baron Cohen's performance has been praised as a standout but I actually found his character one of the less successful elements. The story arc of the film can be predicted before it even starts but it's zany and fun enough for that to not matter. It had more of a story and structure than Anchorman and that helped it in the long run. So, Ricky Bobby isn't as memorable as Ron Burgundy, but his film is actually an improvement.
The summary
Talladega Nights is a consistently funny comedy that entertains throughout.
