The film
Hmm. A gross-out comedy-horror, excellently reviewed, yet ignored by moviegoers. Sounded right up my street. Unfortunately I found it just didn't live up to the critical acclaim. Don't get me wrong, it was a perfectly serviceable film, just nothing that I found particularly special. Nathan Fillion's sheer charisma helped a lot, and I chuckled at some of the homages to classic films I noticed (though I'm sure I didn't catch many of them; I'm not really a horror aficionado). A few of the lines of dialogue were funny too, but a surprising amount of the one-liners fell slightly flat for me. As far as the horror side of things went, it wasn't in the least bit scary, but some decent tension was built up at some points. The best part was a set piece involving a huge amount of foot-long slug-like things swarming into a house. I thought that after this things wrapped themselves up a little quickly and easily, but I guess only so much could be done on the budget. Overall, a decent enough film to pass the time but it's no classic.

The summary
I'm all for giving Nathan Fillion more lead roles, but despite being pretty entertaining, Slither doesn't really capitalise on its Tremors-like promise.
