Severance is one of the best British films I've seen in quite a while. Its mix of horror and comedy proved mostly very successful, with the film only a couple of times seeming to go too far in the quest for a laugh. Most of the time the humour came off well, a lot of the credit for which should go to lead actor Danny Dyer, who obviously has natural comic timing. Surprisingly, I thought the horror aspect of it was very well executed (ahem) too, with great suspense being created and a good amount of genuine jump moments. The atmosphere that it built up was genuinely eerie. The film didn't short change the audience on gore either, becoming a balls-out slasher movie towards the end. As the plot unravelled, I found myself liking it a lot too. A couple of little quibbles aside, Severance turned out to be an effective comedy, an effective horror and a very successful blend of the two.
The summary
Severance is one of those rare horror-comedies that doesn't short-change you on either laughs or frights. Recommended.
