The review
The main reason that I went to see this, I have to admit, was the fact that it was in IMAX 3D. I wasn't expecting too much from the film, which was just as well, because it wasn't particularly brilliant. It wasn't terrible, though, it was just slightly above average. Several characters were quite entertaining and charming, and I liked the setting, which was very well designed (and looked amazing on the giant screen). There were several little touches that kept me entertained throughout the 90 minute running time, so I quite enjoyed it, but the film was never quite funny enough or engrossing enough. The climactic set-piece was well staged, though, and the whole film was extremely slick. Better than a lot of the rubbish out there - it did feel like there had at least been some thought put into it - but amidst the surge of CGI films it doesn't do enough to stand out.

The summary
Open Season is mildly diverting, and extremely pretty in IMAX, but little more.
