The film
Superhero films are ten a penny these days, with several that we could do without. Super Ex is a twist on the standard formula, attempting to combine it with a romantic comedy. The end result was surprisingly effective and turned out to be better than many actual comic book adaptations. The film has been pretty slated in the media but I enjoyed it all the way through. Some of the superhero rescue scenes were very well done, and the film was, dare I say it, probably more fun than the recent Superman Returns (I'm not saying it's a better film though!). The film was consistently funny in its dialogue scenes too. The film was flawed though; the supervillain character played by Eddie Izzard wasn't particularly great (and perhaps superfluous), and some of the CGI was a bit dodgy. The climax of the film was quite over the top too but it did end unpredictably, which was a bonus. Most of the actors suited their roles well, with Luke Wilson being very likeable as the leading man; Rainn Wilson (from the US version of The Office) very funny as his best mate; and Anna Faris adorable, and hot, as usual. It's not going to change the world but the film definitely did its job.

The summary
Entertaining, lightweight, and intermittently really funny, My Super Ex-Girlfriend is a decent popcorn flick.
