I really had very few expectations going into this film, as I knew very little about it except the general synopsis and the fact it was directed by Christopher Guest. A satirical comedy about the inner workings of the Hollywood film industry, and in particular the quest for Academy Awards, I found For Your Consideration to be a very entertaining film. Nearly all of the jokes hit the spot, with some great belly laughs too. The humour of the film is driven by the characters, of which there are several particularly memorable ones. Jennifer Coolidge was hilariously ditzy as the producer without a clue and Fred Willard was great as a presenter of an Entertainment Tonight-type TV show. Catherine O'Hara - who was pretty much the main character, although it was definitely an ensemble film - was also very funny, particularly as the absurdity piled up later on. The film wasn't flawless (for example, I thought that several scenes felt 'chopped off' a bit too soon, as if the director was really concerned about the improvisation going on for too long) but it was extremely enjoyable, and most importantly, really funny.
The summary
For Your Consideration is an at times hilarious film that pokes fun at the Hollywood celebrity culture in a very effective way.
