"They will make him steal, but he will make them pay"

Director: Richard Loncraine
Starring: Harrison Ford, Paul Bettany, Virginia Madsen, Robert Patrick

The film
I like Harrison Ford. It was for that reason alone (not at all the expectation of a good film) that I saw this film. Halfway through, I was ready to call it mediocre, average, middle of the road and whatever other thesaurus entries there are (in fact, by this point it felt a lot like last year's Hostage, in terms of both content and quality). However, at about the halfway point, the film gave up any semblance of reality and cranked up the fun-meter a good few notches. I've read reviews criticising the latter half of the film, but I found it by far the more entertaining half (admittedly, I had made sure to leave my brain at the door). The flaws of the film are very evident, the lack of originality being a major one. Also, other than Paul Bettany, I found that the villains completely lacked menace; it seemed like the casting director had just gone to Rent-a-Goon. Another thing was that the ending wrapped itself up a bit too quickly and neatly. Despite that though, I enjoyed the second half enough to say that it was a worthwhile film to see, but it still doesn't quite deserve four stars.

The summary
Firewall is pretty generic, but in the second half it's really entertaining. Regardless of his age, it's nice to see Harrison Ford back where he belongs, in an action movie.
