1. I saw her standing naked in the graveyard. I parked and grabbed a blanket from my car. The rain came down like judgements, she was frozen to the bone. And I could feel the tearing of her heart. She said her brother didnt even leave a note. She said, I loved him and I thought we were so close, guess I was wrong. So wrong. * Shes walking with the spirits. Shes talking, I hope he hears it. Shes walking with the spirits tonight. 2. She struggled with her anger. She wrestled with her grief. I took her home, she dressed, I made a fire. I said, Guilts a hungry monster that you shouldnt have to feed and regret has wrapped your soul up in barbed wire. She said her brother was a good man. She asked if God could forgive and understand though he was wrong. Dead wrong. * Shes walking with the spirits. Shes talking, I hope he hears it. Shes walking with the spirits tonight. + Its been two years since I met her. Now weve a baby coming soon. The ghosts of our past have turned to angels. They haunt us like old friends do. * Were walking with the spirits. Were talking, I hope they hear us. Were walking with the spirits all our lives. words: Steven Stewart music: Steven Stewart & John Beck 1997
This song was inspired by the death of a family friend. When I found out, it messed me up. I walked around in a daze for the next couple of days. How could this happen? I questioned my beliefs. I thought about life after death. It had been too long since I had thought and felt so deeply about something.
Death is a scary thing. I have seen it destroy the lives of the living who cling to the past or get bitter with regrets.
Death can also bring people together...to remember all of the good things about the person who passed away and to renew promises to remember that life is precious, forgive the past, and look with hope to the future.
Its funny how the ghosts of the past can haunt you in both positive and negative ways. Seems like we are walking with those spirits every day of our lives, but we decide how we will be affected.
