Roses in the Winter

Roses in the Winter

1. Where have all the heroes gone?
She wonders as her knights drag on.
The queen of the castle is locked behind the door.
Shes a lady in waiting. But whats she waiting for?

2. Her friends say, Rupunzels tower kept her safe from harm.
Dont waste your wishes on a falling star.
Get used to the lonely. Let the fairy tales go.
You wont find Prince Charming, so stop kissing those toads.

*She still believes shell find roses in the winter.
She still believes a penny in the wishing well can save her.

3. She still sings every night.
The music in her heart for Mister Right.
He might be miles away,
but she hopes hell hear her...someday.

*She still believes shell find roses in the winter.
She still believes a penny in the wishing well can save her.

# She doesnt need a white knight
 to chase away her blues.
Just roses in the winter
will make all of her dreams come true.

SOLO

*She still believes shell find roses in the winter.
She still believes a penny in the wishing well can save her.

* She still believes.
She still believes that someone out there will save her.

Roses in the Winter

OK. I'm going to tell you something about myself that just is not even pretty. It's dark and ugly and horrible. But we are friends, right? I've changed. I'm not the same. Can you forgive me? All right. I'll tell you the awful thing I did.

I wanted to write the kind of song every girl who longed for romance would want to hear. I did an evil, rotten, terrible experiment. I would tell different girls that I wrote it for them to see how close I got. OW. Now I feel like the idiot I am. Every single one of the girls broke into tears and said, "How did you know me so well?" and "How could you? How do you write for a woman so well?" (Thank heavens I didn't steal Jack Nicholson's quote from "As Good As It Gets".)

So the problem is, I wrote the song almost making fun of the fairy tale romance that seems to be in so many people's hearts. And I ended up converting myself to the story. I wrote it as a cynic and ended up a romantic. (See "Cupid's Throwing Daggers" about that one.) So now I no longer tell people that the song was specifically written for them. And I actually feel a touch of hope when I sing it. Weird. Next thing you know I'll be singing Michael Bolton cover songs and I do NOT want to go there!
