After Eden

after eden

1. I know I’m not the only man and you’re not the woman from my rib,
but the serpent’s in the garden and we’ve fallen again.

+ We love, we laugh. We raise Cain. We fight and somehow lose our way.
What do we have to sacrifice to come back home?

*After Eden. (After Eden) We’re searching for our souls.
(After Eden) After Eden. The winds of change still blow.
This path of thorns pricks our skin but the pain is bittersweet.
(After Eden) After Eden nothing’s what is seems.

2. I cut my heart on shattered dreams, but you free the dove and trust in me.
Somehow we’ll live through this if you swear you’ll never leave.

+ Let’s forget our nakedness and dance into the wilderness.
The heavens are not silent after all...

*After Eden. (After Eden) We’re searching for our souls.
(After Eden) After Eden. The winds of change still blow.
This path of thorns pricks our skin but the pain is bittersweet.
(After Eden) After Eden nothing’s what is seems.

# Please forgive me. I didn’t grasp what we had done.
Please forgive me. I’m not the same man that I was.

I guess I learned the hard way that it's hard to escape your past when most folks won't forget what they forgave. ("Crawl" is another example of this theme.) This song is about forgetting what you've done wrong and concentrating on making your future right.
