Crawl

crawl

1. She whispers, “Judas” when I kiss her on the cheek
Says she suffers like her Jesus when she’s crucifying me.

I was wrong. I have changed.
She smiles, but still she finds it hard
to forget what she forgave.

2. I bring her roses, prick my fingers on the thorns
She swears that love’s alive, She martyrs, she mourns

I was wrong. I have changed.
The crucible is burning.
Who’s the witch and who’s the saint?

* She said, "Drop to your knees. Get on the floor.
I want you to crawl or I’ll show you the door.
Stay on your knees. Fall to the floor.
I want you to crawl or I’ll show you the door. Crawl!"

3. Her friends say, “Dump him.
Where’s your pride? Stop losing face.”
They’re calling me the antichrist,
 the dog needs a chain.

But She’s in control. I’m her slave.
I’m wrapped around her finger and I’m willing to beg..

* "She said, "Drop to your knees. Get on the floor.
I want you to crawl or I’ll show you the door.
Stay on your knees. Fall to the floor.
I want you to crawl or I’ll show you the door. Crawl!"

+ Punish me. I’ve been a bad bad boy.
Embarrass me. I deserve it.
Abuse me. I will show you joy.
I will be your Man. be your child. Be your toy.

GUITAR SOLO

* She said, "Drop to your knees. Get on the floor.
I want you to crawl or I’ll show you the door.
Stay on your knees. Fall to the floor.
I want you to crawl or I’ll show you the door. Crawl!"

Nyah nyah nyah nyah (everybody sings!) I want you to crawl!

crawl

This is a light sounding song where the music belies the lyrics about guilt, the abuse of power, self-righteousness and destructive cycles. The idea came from the still relavant play by Arthur Miller called, "The Crucible." I had just seen the recent movie version on video (Wynonna...I wait for your love!) and I really enjoyed the complex chemistry between Proctor and his wife. They loved each other, but there was so much wrong between them.

Sometimes we feel like we need to be punished for what we've done, but you can take it too far.

But again, even with the warped lyrics, this is a really fun song to play and our audiences have a good time singing the "Nyah nyah nyah's" of the last verse.
