The WorldSkills Competition, formerly known as the International Youth Skills Olympics, is an international skills competition that is staged biennially (every 2 years). Modeled along the Sports Olympics, it is organized by the Switzerland-based International Vocational Training Organisation (IVTO) since 1950, with the objectives of providing an international platform for young skilled personnel to distinguish themselves in their vocations, and to raise the standards of industrial skills worldwide. WorldSkills Helsinki 2005 had 40 trades with 37 countries taking part.
WorldSkills Singapore (WSS), formally known as National Skills Competition (NSC), is a biennial nation-wide skills competition for Singaporean youths who excel in technical skills. The change in the name elevates the standing of the Singapore’s achievement at WorldSkills Competition, that indeed the skills of our youths are of world-class standards.
