Body Dimensions

All cars must comply with the following minimum and maximum dimensions.

Additional Notes

Length measured between front and rear extremities of body.
Height measured from track surface to car body.
Body width measured from side-to-side of the car body - the side pods are the part of the car that flanks the sides of the cockpit area of the car.
Total bpdy width measured between outside edges of the wheels furthest apart.

Wheel Dimensions

All F1 cars must have 4 wheels, two at the front, two at the rear
All wheels must fit the criteria listed below.

Additional Notes

Wheel diameters measured to the extreme outer edges of each wheel
Wheel widths measured between the extreme edges (including any protrusions).

All 4 wheels must touch the racing surface at the same time and all wheels should roll easily.
Wheel dimensions must be consistent with the whole diameter/circumference of the wheel.
A school/college may manufacture their own wheels, as long as they fit within the set specifications.

Wheel to Body Dimensions

The wheels are not allowed to be completely inside the car body and should be at least partially visible from the side view and end views.

Power Plant

The event organisers will provide all CO2 cartridges for the regional finals and national final.

No paint is allowed inside the chamber(please seal off or protect the chamber while painting).

Height above track measured from track surface to lowest surface part of the CO2 chamber.

Screw Eyes

Each car must have 2 screw eyes firmly secured at the front and rear of the car body, running along the car body base centre line. The track string must pass through the two screw eyes.

Each screw eye must not make contact with the racing surface. Please ensure you use the recommended screw eye size.

Glue may be used to secure the screw eyes.
Teams must make sure that the screw eye holes are tightly closed to prevent the string from slipping out of the screw eyes. This should be done prior to registration.

Additional Notes

Inside diameter refers to the hole in the screw eye itself.
Separation is the longest distance between the screw eye holes.

Car Body

The car body including side pods and rear wing, must be machined from a single piece of balsa wood. Aerofoils can be manufactured as part of the balsa wood or manufactured from a separate piece of material.
The design of the completed R-TYPE car should resemble an actual F1 car and should include the following features:

an aerofoil on the front of the car, if made from a separate material, attached to the nose of the car
an aerofoil on the rear of the car
side pods on both sides of the car

The car body should be made from one whole piece of balsa wood. Two or more like or unlike pieces of wood (or any other material) will not be considered one piece.

A driver cockpit/driver is an opptional feature.
Designs will be tested and examined for any implants or voids hidden within the car body.

Repair and Maintenance

No repair or maintenance on entries will be allowed after the entries have been registered.
If an entry becomes damaged during the event, teams will be allowed to use their spare car, as long as the Judges have determined that the spare car is identical to the original. In the unlikely event that the second car also becomes damaged, the entry will be evaluated by the event co-ordinator, who will make a ruling on whether or not the team will be allowed to repair the vehicle. This is the only reason that a team should be allowed to tamper with their car after registration.
Wheels that come off during racing may be replaced as determined by the event co-ordinator.
Damaged wheels may not be replaced only with the permission of the event co-ordinator.

CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Cartridges

F1 RECOMMENDS THAT YOU ENSURE THAT YOU READ AND CHECK THE RULES VERY THOROUGHLY BEFORE BEGINNING THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF YOUR F1 CAR.
