Swiss Ventilo Zipo     and    Italian Mattia Dynacat 16
The boat yards of Ventilo and Mattia have jointly developped a new hull design. This planing hull design with a trip turbulator right behind the daggerboard is now featured on two new 5.0 mtr. (16,4 foot) designs which have been simultaniously launched in the year 2002.

Both designs use the same platform, beams and a boomless mainsail of equal area. But than both companies go their own way and offer different rig packages and also the fittings differ slightly.

Some of the more striking differences are :

Ventilo uses T-foil rudders while Mattia fits its boats with their conventional kick up rudders

Ventilo uses a rail and traveller car on the mainsail foot a la Nacra and Mattia uses a clew plate with holes

Ventilo uses a swiveling gennaker cleat fitted in the middle of the trampoline and Mattia has a cleat fitted higher up on the mast.

Ventilo offers a carbon mast as an option.

Ventilo offers a circular selftacking jib track as an option and Mattia fits a straight selftacking jib track as a standard fitting.

The Ventilo bridle intersection sits a little lower on the platform and the jib is cut a little taller and uses asymmetric daggerboards.

But both designs use mylar sails again.

See the pictures below to spot the smaller differences.
