傳真模式 蘇西說要傳真文件給弟弟：I've got to ask him to switch his machine from telephone to fax mode。Fax這裡是指「傳真方式」。但fax還有其他意思、用法。 作名詞，fax可以指「傳真機」、「傳真的文件」和「傳真方式」，例如：(1) This fax (= fax machine) automatically puts the current time in the top left-hand corner of each page printed（這部傳真機每印一張紙，都會把當時時間印在紙張左上角）。(2) Please send a fax of this document to our lawyer（請把這份文件傳真給我們的律師）。(3) Could I make an appointment by fax?（我可以用傳真方式約定時間嗎？） 作動詞，fax指「傳真」，其後可用「直接受詞(direct object) + to + 間接受詞(indirect object)」，也可用「間接受詞＋直接受詞」，例如：I faxed the letter to him/I faxed him the letter（我把信件傳真給他）。直接受詞是傳送的文件，間接受詞則是收件人。不過，假如兩個受詞都是代名詞，則一般不用「間接受詞＋直接受詞」句式，例如不會說Fax me it（把它傳真給我吧），只會說Fax it (to) me。隨便一點的英語，在it字之後有時會把to略去。Fax them to me等的to字，卻是不可略去的。 Switch是「轉換」，mode則是「模式」，例如：The fax machine is in its sleep mode（傳真機處於「睡眠」模式）。Sleep mode是機器閒置時自動關掉的省電模式。The fax has switched to the transmit mode即「傳真機已轉換到傳送模式」。 |
