There was no give-and-take at all.

Paul:That was a really hard negotiation.
Kate:I can see; you look really exhausted. What was the problem?
Paul:They were very inflexible and just stuck to their original position.
Kate:So there was no give-and-take at all.
Paul:No, none at all, because they knew they were in a very strong position.
Kate:No wonder you had such a hard time.
They were very inflexible、(They) just stuck to their original positions. There was no give-and-take at all。 (1) There must be some give-and-take if the disagreement is to be settled(要解決意見分歧,雙方多少都要讓步)。(2) Marriage is very much a matter of give-and-take(婚姻的要義在於互相遷就)。 We got together for a give-and-take after we were charged with the task(我們接到任務之後,聚在一起討論)。 (1) Stick to your work or you'll never succeed(你必須鍥而不舍,否則永遠不會成功)。(2) He stuck to nothing(他做甚麼事都不會堅持多久)。留意to stick at nothing是「不擇手段」的意思,和stick to nothing完全不同,例如:He stuck at nothing to get promotion(他為求晉升,不擇手段)。 What is the point of negotiation when you maintain such an inflexible/intransigent/uncompromising position?(你既然堅持不妥協的立場,談判還有甚麼意思?)最後談談You look really exhausted的exhausted。 I was exhausted from playing basketball(我打籃球打到筋疲力盡)。
