烈酒千杯不醉 亨利說：I was out on the town with Ollie last night。(Out) on the town一語，以前談過，意思是「到城裡吃喝玩樂」，例如：On our first night in Bangkok, we went (out) on the town（我們在曼谷的第一晚，到城裡吃喝玩樂）。 亨利說和奧利喝酒，花費不少：He only drinks shorts and he can certainly put them away。Put away指「吃、喝（大量食物、飲料）」，是俗語，例如：(1) That child can put away more than his father（那孩子食量比他父親還大）。(2) We put away a lot in the pub（我們在酒店裡暢飲）。和put away同義的說法還有put down、pack away、tuck away等，例如：They packed away a lot in the pub。 Short是不攙蘇打水、果汁等的烈酒，例如威士忌酒(whisky)和杜松子酒(gin)，一般用小杯盛，所以稱為a short或a short drink。只含少量甚至沒有酒精的飲料，例如啤酒、果汁等，則多用高杯盛，所以叫a long drink，例如：He ordered a long drink for his girlfriend, and a short for himself（他幫女朋友要了一杯普通飲料，自己則要一杯烈酒）。 問人家要喝甚麼，英文一般說法是：What’s yours?或What are you drinking?或What can I get you?假如你和外國朋友上酒店，聽見他說：It’s my round, what’s yours?那是說「輪到我買酒了，你要喝甚麼？」你可以回答：A half of bitter, please（請給我半品脫苦啤酒）、A pint of lager, please（請給我一品脫淡啤酒）等。切勿忘了那個全能的字：please。 |
