色粉壽命 人的壽命，英文當然是叫life；機器等的使用期或有效期，也可叫life，例如：The average life of a television of this brand is five years（這個牌子的電視機，平均壽命是五年）。 影印機等的色粉可用多久，叫toner life。「色粉壽命」是以頁數計算的，例如：With a toner life of 6000 pages（或With a 6000 page toner life），this copier is much more economical than the previous one（這部影印機的色粉壽命是六千頁，比上一部省錢得多）。 而機器等也和人一樣，有life expectancy，即「預期壽命」或「平均壽命」，例如：What is the life expectancy of this copier?（這部影印機預期可以用多久？） 有時，你會看到life span這說法。Span本是指手掌張開時，拇指尖和小指尖之間的距離；引伸其義，span可以解作「全長」，life span即「壽命的長度」，同樣可以用來說人、物，例如：(1) The life span of a toner cartridge is essentially decided by the volume of toner it contains（色粉盒壽命有多長，主要是看盒子中多少色粉）。(2) Nowadays, a man's normal life span is seventy to eighty years（今天，人的壽命一般是七十至八十歲）。 Span作動詞，指「跨越」或「涵蓋」。這也是「由拇指尖到小指尖」意思的引伸，例如：(1) His life spanned seventy years/two world wars（他活了七十年/他經歷了兩次世界大戰）。(2) A bridge spanned the river（一座橋跨越那條河）。 |
