
EC CLUB, BRUSSELS - FEB 2001 NEWSLETTER
St Patrick's Weekend Event, 2001
This year's event - featuring kids', ladies' & mens' football plus all the customary "cultural light refreshments" - will this year take place on Sunday 18 March at the EC Sports Club in Overijse:-
- E411 motorway towards Luxembourg, take exit 3 and turn right towards La Hulpe:
- After 400m, turn left towards Genval, immediately after the Q8 filling station;
- After 1km, right at yellow electricity/gas marker 669 onto Boslaan (between fields);
- After another 1km, take the third exit at the roundabout onto Bosbessenlaan;
- After 100m, turn left onto Dennenboslaan (spelt Deneboslaan in some De Rouck.s ...); and
- After 50m, you hit a dead end - that's the EC Sports Centre, with No 54 on the gate.
AGM OF THE EURO BOARD OF THE GAA
This took place in The Hague, Holland on Sat 20 Jan last. Brux GAA's increased profile at all levels during 2000 was reflected in the election of Club members to 3 Euro Board posts for 2001 as follows:-
- John Ludden as Under-Age GAA Development Officer;
- Patricia Hickey as Ladies GAA Development Officer; and
- Cathal Lynch as Euro GAA Board Secretary.
KIDS' SCHEDULE FOR 2001
Resumes on 11 March with the following schedule planned for the rest of the Spring/Summer:-
- Training/match at British School in Tervuren: All on Sundays - 11 March, 1 April, 22 April, 6 May, 20 May, 24 June and 22 July;
- St Patrick's Weekend; Sunday 18 March, match in the EC Sports Centre, Overijse;
- Match against visiting team from Ireland (provisional): Weekend ending Sunday 10 June;
- Feile Peil na nOg: From Friday-Sunday 6-8 July, representing Europe for the second successive year in the Feile (being held this year in Thurles, Co Tipperary); and
- Gaelic Club/Irish Club Sports Day: Date to be confirmed, match in the British School.
LADIES GAA , 2001
Will resume on Sunday 18 March with a match at the St Patrick's Weekend Event in Overijse, possibly against visiting Irish opposition (to be confirmed).
MENS' GAA , 2001
The Euro Board AGM above agreed to play a European GAA League over the course of a number of Rounds from Spring to Autumn 2001. Brux Mens' GAA will thus resume with participation in Round 1 in Rennes in Brittany, NW France on Saturday 3 March followed by a match at the St Patrick's Weekend event in the EC Sports Centre Overijse on Sunday 18 March. We also hope to participate in as many as possible of the remaining Rounds of the Euro League as follows:-
- Round 2: Paris on Saturday 31 March.
- Round 3: Guernsey in the Channel Islands on Saturday 5 May.
- Round 4: Luxembourg on Saturday 26 May;
- Round 5: Brussels on Saturday 30 June; and
- Round 6: The Hague on Saturday 13 October.
