Grandma's Chocolate Pudding (1929)
 
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
4 tablespoons (heaping) flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
butter
vanilla
 
Add a little milk at a time to dry ingredients, then cook in a double boiler, stirring, until thick; then add a little lump of butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla.  [Makes about 4 small servings.]
 
Important:  Before pouring, put top of double boiler in a pan of cold water; continue to stir while cooling.
