| The band is the result of the creative drive of two Auckland based flatmates, Justyn Pilbrow and Dave Gibson. Justyn's background is in the field of music, with an almost finished, but ultimately abandoned Bachelor of Music degree from Auckland University and a couple of guitar sessions on the recently released K'Lee record. He also co-owns a music production company in downtown Auckland called 'Player One'. Justyn's real love however, lies far from these sophisticated urban grooves and break beats. He loves dirty ass, trailer residing, bleached blond hair and fake tits rock music. This unquenched passion must've been the background to that fateful day when late night he broached the subject of starting up something special to his long time flatmate David Gibson. Known to many of Auckland's less discerning music lovers as one half of house music station, George FM's breakfast show, few actually know that David is an accomplished actor. Dave is also a pretty good drummer, although that's got not much to do with his role of Lead vocals in the ELEMENOP pop rock machine. Dave also has a Bachelors degree in Business from Auckland University, which makes lengthy conversations about economics and the subtle forces at play in the markets a staple feature for anyone looking to spend time with David. So anyway, David and Justyn, late one night decided to scratch their shared itch and started writing songs. Dave already had the lyrics for one, being the glorious 'Fast Times in Tahoe', which Justyn put music to that night, and thus a rash of songwriting began and a band was recruited. They called on the very able and talented drummer, Scotty Pearson. A builder by trade (being the boss of things at 'Scotty Construction'), Scotty is a powerhouse rhythm machine with an eye for the ladies, and a real knack for creating catchy phrases, and like Tommy Lee, Scotty has been drumming since the seventies, which has to be worth something. Soon enough a demo was forged at Justyn and David's flat and sent off to the majors. Their itch to rock calmed by the calamine of recording, they returned to their day to day grind. One day, six months later, strangely enough, and relatively out of the blue came a call from Universal Music, who had received the demo, had liked it and now wanted to talk seriously about the prospects for the band. A meeting followed. The band got excited. They hung out with record industry people. David got drunk. The contract was signed. David got drunk again and talked about the economics of contractual and entertainment law. And that's about the size of it. With there extremly catchy singles Fast times in tahoe, Nirvana, Everydays a Saturday and Verona it was no wonder there album was going to sky rocket right into the No.1 Slot and becoming a gold album in its first week of sales, the Album then went platnum, what does the future hold for elemeno p? Who knows? Well all i can say is they are good stories waiting to happen. Writtin By: Elemeno P (official site) with Updates Made by Simon Poulton |
