Episode: Into Viltheed (aka The Dreamstone Part Two)

Half the episodes had already aired of season two when they decided to split it up by repeating the first 4 episodes of series one mid season. I can only imagine this was done because the second half of season two was not yet ready)

Into Viltheed v.s. The Dreamstone Part Two: There were a couple of differences between how both episodes run as in some scenes were swapped around or taken from the The Dreamstone Part One and added to The Dreamstone Part Two. The best copy to own of the pilot episodes is that on the VCI VHS video release as it's the exact copy ITV aired in 1990 with all scenes intact.

Episode Description:

The episode begins with Rufus leaving the Valley of the Noops and by nightfall he is deep inside the forest. While Rufus is walking through the forest, a hand reaches out of the bushes and grabs him. It's a Wut named Pildit, who is leader of the Wuts. The Wuts are the guardians of the forest. Pildit tells Rufus that they were expecting him and shows him a message from the Dreammaker through his globe. The Dreammaker reminds Rufus how important it is to get the Dreamstone back from Zordrak. Pildit offers Rufus help to get the Dreamstone back and they decide to devise a plan and that get some sleep.

The Argorribles have arrived in the Land of Dreams, terrorising all the inhabitants in their sleep. Pildit awakes to find an Argorrible invading Rufus' sleep and he chases it off with the light from his globe. Pildit comments that Zordrak has wasted no time in sending his nightmares now he has possession of the Dreamstone. Pildit says that he will accompany Rufus and that they will set off for Viltheed at first light. Pildit introduces Rufus to the flying leaves that grow in the Wut forest, which the Wuts use as transport. Rufus quickly masters flying on a leaf and they are soon headed through the Mist of Limbo onward towards Viltheed.

Meanwhile, Zordrak is watching them on his view screen and is unimpressed by whom the Dreammaker has sent to retrieve the Dreamstone. Zordrak sends Blob, Frizz and Nug to man the Whirleyped and go destroy Rufus and Pildit. We are then introduced to Urpgor, a green Urpney who has created all of Viltheed's vehicles and weapons. He explains his newest weapon to Blob, Frizz and Nug called the Egg of Death. Urpgor tells the three Urpney's that they must pull a lever before launching the egg and warns them that they must not forget. Meanwhile Rufus and Pildit are almost clear of the Mist of Limbo when they get struck by lightening, though that's the least of their worries as the Whirleyped is headed straight at them.

Rufus and Pildit are knocked flying and barely managing to hold on to their leaves. They climb back on to the leaves, but as they are flying away a grabbing device from the Whirleyped grabs Rufus, but he manages to bite himself free. Rufus and Pildit fly into a canyon in the hopes of losing the Urpney's.

The Urpney's are told by Zordrak to use the Egg of Death, but they don't pull the lever in time and crash between two rock faces. Frizz and Nug push the egg out by hand and fall out with the egg. The egg breaks open and a black gas emerges from the egg knocking out the Urpney's. Extremely angry at the Urpney's failure to stop Pildit and Rufus, Zordrak says he will stop the intruders himself by burying them alive. Zordrak uses his power on the canyon and the rock is breaking up all around Rufus and Pildit. Pildit is knocked off his leaf to the ground and Rufus goes to help him, where they are both buried under the rocks. Zordrak assumes he was successful in disposing Rufus and Pildit, so orders all the troops to celebrate.

Rufus pushes himself out from under the rocks, but finds Pildit unconcious, assuming he is dead. Rufus marches towards the mountain of Viltheed in anger vowing to stop Zordrak. Once inside the mountain, Rufus encounters Urpney's that Zordrak has turned to stone. He also finds Amberley amongst them, totally unaware that's it's actually her. He gets upset thinking about what could have happened to her, that tears run from his eyes on to the statue, which restores Amberley back to life. Rufus is surprised to see her and starts telling her about how he got to Viltheed, but Amberley interupts telling him they must get the Dreamstone back.

Amberley shows Rufus the pit Zordrak threw the Dreamstone into telling him that Zordrak feeds Urpney's to the creatures in the pit. To get the Dreamstone back they distract the creatures by pushing Urpney statues into the pit, so Rufus can swim to the bottom for the Dreamstone which he succeeds in getting. Zordrak and the Urpney's are so busy celebrating that they do not notice Rufus and Amberley getting the Dreamstone from the pit. However Rufus gets so excited about getting the Dreamstone that he shouts to Amberley that he got it which Zordrak hears. Zordrak fires a bolt of power at Rufus and Amberley to kill them, but the Dreamstone absorbs the bolt.

The power of the Dreamstone then scares off all the Urpney troops and sends Zordrak flying off his throne into his Argorrible pit. Rufus and Amberley run out of Viltheed, but are cornered by a bunch of Urpney troops. The troops are frightened off by bolts of power from Pildit's globe, Pildit had survived afterall! Pildit manages to pull one of the leaves out from the rocks and they escape from Viltheed on it.

Blob, Frizz and Nug are still stranded in the canyon where the Whirleyped crashed. In the hope of attracting a rescue party spell out ELP using pebbles, assuming that they just might have spelt it wrong. Rufus and Amberley are dropped off at the Dreammakers house by Pildit who says he can't stop as must get back to the Wut forest. Rufus and Amberley find the Dreammaker asleep, so creep up to the tower room to return the Dreamstone. However the Dreammaker sees them and comments to Albert that they can relax now the stone is back.

Everyone in the Noop valley is proud of Rufus and Amberley's effort to get the Dreamstone back, that they turn up to the Dreammakers house to congratulate them. Back at Viltheed, Blob, Frizz and Nug return warning Zordrak about Rufus far too late. Zordrak isn't pleased and fires a bolt of power which causes some rocks to fall on the three Urpney's. Zordrak vows that he will get the Dreamstone again!
