What is "Shades of Grey"?
Shades of Grey is a Kirby fanfiction that I started in December and ended in February.  When I first started watching the Kirby Anime, I was not impressed.  However, as time went on I began to like it more, especially Meta-Knight (I was a bit biased, as Meta-Knight was always my favorite in the games).  I started getting ideas for a fanfic, but for a while I never planned on writing one.  Well, I eventually started looking for Kirby fanfiction on fanfiction.net.  Since Meta-Knight was my favored, I was looking more for fanfics that were about him.  I found very few stories that even featured Meta-Knight, and the ones that did were usually comedies.  So I had decided that I would eventually try to write a serious Kirby fic, just to prove that it could be done.  As time progressed, I began to think that no one would want a serious Kirby fanfic, since the anime was normally light-hearted.  Afterwards, my interest in the fic began to wane and it was almost doomed to never exist.  Until one day, I watched "Hour of the Wolfwrath."  I loved that episode, and it renewed my interest in the fic.  Although I was still worried that no one would like the fic, I figured that the worst risk of all was not taking one.  So with that in mind, I wrote my first chapter and posted it.  I had hoped for maybe one or two reviews, but when I checked my mailbox later that day, I had found seven!  I had felt a mixture of surprise, happiness and apprehension.  If so many people had reviewed in such a short period of time, that either meant that the fic was very appealing, or that it was craptastic.  To my supreme joy, I came to find that they liked my fic!  This was a big encouragement, and I continued working on the fic with renewed energy.  Two months later the fanfiction was complete.  Besides Past, Present and Future, this was the longest that any of my fics had ever been.  I never expected the fic to be as long as it was, nor did I expect it to be so popular.  It's been a very gratifying experience, as nothing feels better than knowing that people have found enjoyment within the fruits of my labor.
