THE CUBS

Polar Bear Shores at Seaworld is again set to take the headlines with the introduction of 2 new Polar Bears, Lia (female) and Lutik (male).

The cubs are about 1 year old, and at the moment are in qurantine, which they will be in untill the 23rd of December.  They will make their public debut a few days after, on the 26th.  The bears will be kept seperate from residents Ping Ping and Kanook for the time being.  In the future, they are expected to be introduced with Kanook, but not Ping Ping, as Ping Ping is an older, more dominant male.

It should be pointed out that the cubs are more then just a marketing ploy, as Seaworld staff hope that introducing the younger bears with Kanook will encourage her to become more 'motherly'

Getting Kanook to breed is part of the 'Bigger Picture' for Polar Bear Shores, and the cubs are one step to make it happen.

The cost to bring the bears to Australia is beleived to be a $300,000 donation to the Leningradski Zoo.
