Donegal Celtic was formed in 1970 when a group of young men who had a huge interest in football decided to form a local football team in the community of West Belfast. With no facilities, kits, pitch or equipment it was always going to be hard and they did find it a struggle for the first few years. These years were spent playing friendlies and entering local summer competitions, which only helped to enhance and promote their reputation and name. Realising that this team had talent and dedication it was only obvious that sonn they would be a recognised footballing force. They registered their chosen name (Donegal Celtic) wtith the Irish Footballing League, taking the name from |

the locality in which they were based. Lenadoon, Gweedore, Glenveagh are all local streets named after towns in Donegal and the Celtic part was because of the huge local interest in 'Glasgow Celtic', from the surrounding area. From then on in, DC has become a massive club and one that is on its way to the top. We have arguably one of the best youth set-ups in the country and are currently responsible for boys aged from U10 - U18. We also have a girls set-up at U14 with five U16 internationals in that squad, and hopefully this season u12 also. Going on from that we have a well structured Ladies senior side who won the most prestigious 'Belfast Cup' last season. |

Our main priority however is our senior mens team, the squad who beat all odds and are now representing themselves at Irish League Standard (first div) after gaining promotion at the first attempt. A solid management structure of Paddy Kelly, Marty McKiernan and Gerard Loughran have done superbly over the last several years and this was paid of last year when the team brought the prestigious STEEL & SONS CUP back to belfast (where it belongs). This season will be tough and we know we will need to be at our best in order to make the premier division, the higest standard of football in NI. But we'll give it our best shot and hopefully get there in the end. Goodluck to all |
