40k Alternative Rules

Summer 2000 It struck us that Warmaster would make a great 'engine' to base a new kind of Epic upon. These rules will be worked out over the next few weeks. A few sample troops have been included below. And shut yer whining about low stats for marines etc - we're talking Epic battlefield weapons here: big Imperial armour, pyroacidic tyranid bile, volcano cannon and plasma annilhilators...

March 2001 Ok, so maybe 'a few weeks' was a bit too optimistic. Other people have hit upon the idea of a WM40k, spurring me back into action. There's even an Egroup. I've added some basic rules for vehicles etc. and ought to split the page up. Dare I say 'in the next few weeks'? *g*

March 12th 2001 Much lively debate on the Egroup. Therefore, I've decided to revamp the stats and things here. New stuff for infantry added (dispersed rule), and new stats / ranges for shooting.

March 15th 2001 The Egroup has finally approved some basic stuff, and I've decided to write up the tyranid army draft.

New rules

Dispersed formation Not being used for now!
  • Each stand must be within 2cm of another in that unit
  • Unit suffers -1 command
  • Unit can only lose 1 stand per shooting attack
  • Some weapons (e.g. scatter laser) can hit all stands in a unit
  • Stand gets no support from other stands in unit
  • Each stand pushed back independently

Armour
  • All weapons grouped into one dice pool
  • All shots get -1AS and 60cm range
  • If the vehicle is lost, each unit it is carrying
    make one armour save or also die.
  • Do not suffer pushback

Fliers
  • Unlimited move
  • Only commanded by general
  • Cannot be assaulted or make assaults
  • Attacks one unit
  • Target may stand-and-shoot if range 30cm+
  • Units within 30cm may also stand-and-shoot
  • Shots at fliers suffer -1 to hit unless AA unit
  • Do not suffer pushback

Shooting Pushback
  • Units can avoid pushback if the player makes a rally roll
  • A hero must be within range
  • Rally rolls are separate to orders command rolls
  • Once a hero fails, he may not rally again that phase
