Ideas for conversions

After numerous (often drunken) ramblings with various co-conspirators I decided to note my ideas down here lest I lose the forever. The ideas concern dioramas and other modelling ideas for Citadel miniatures. If these things ever come into being, I'll be sure to put pictures up for the world to see!

Orks
It seems that Orks offer the best opportunity for conversions and dioramas. Or maybe it's just that Nick is quite into greenskins.
Of all the potential, looterz seem the best. I'm thinking Mad Max here...

  • Warboss. Would have all manner of looted kit. Wears patchwork armour (or bits of armour hanging from string) made from armour of various space marine chapters.
  • Rhino. No time like a new rhino release to make a conversion! I was thinking it'd be piled high with all manner of gubbins, noteably a sink from a dolls house. Damaged armour will be patched with the usual crude metal sheets and also road signs: 'pedestrians crossing', 'slow' that sort of thing. Maybe even have the barrier from a border check-point.
  • Rhino pt2. This has now evolved into the aforementioned rhino, but with a trailer. The trailer would be piled high with loot and the inevitable zombies-made-to-look-like-imperial-guardsmen. The rhino and trailer would be thundering across a battlefiled, bouncing and losing loot along the way. The boss would be leaning out of the vehicle, wearing googles and tongue (and drool) streaming in the wind.
  • Da Mole. See 'tunneller' below. I figured some sort of U-boat would be trezz orky. Various variants, including having a big articulated tail, a periscopic coning tower, hatches for a big gun, caterpillar tracks along the side, torpedo tubes, big drill bit on the bow... The important bit was that there'd be a huge furrow cut in the earth, like the bow wave of a submarine.

Bugs
Sad but true, I'm getting bored of bugs due to the lack of modelling opportunities. No rust, no jury-rigged vehicles, no sense of humour! Still, that hasn't stopped me having a few ideas

  • Tunneller. Ever since the golden days of Epic, tunnellers have been a favourite. There's something H.G. Wells-ian about them, something totally steampunk, yet they rock! Especially the hellbore, but let's not go there... for now. Yes, bug tunneller. Everyone knows that bugs get shot to pieces. It's a fact accepted by hive monds across the galaxy - you will lose a hundred gaunts before you even get into hand to hand. But NO! This needn't be! Why should these soft fleshy prey slay our constructs before their destiny has been met? A tunneller seemed to be the way to go. Hence, the 'hell mole'. Actually, I came up with a pidgin Latin name (Tampamalax) but it sounds a) crap, b) rude so we'll stick with Hellmole for now (aww, so fluffy and cute and arghhhhhh!)
  • Rhino diorama. Ok, more rhino fun. A rhino with a brood of rending-claws-armed warriors tearing the roof off a rhino. Perhaps a cowering marine inside frantically unloading a clip into them.
  • Lictors. Oh yes, we LOVE mantid warriors! A couple of ideas here. One is to use half of the model, with the other half being some sort of tree model, so it looks like the lictor IS the tree. If you get my drift. (I tried this one, but it fell to pieces. Work in progress!). The other is for an urban setting, with the lictor flat up against a wal. The brick / stone pattern of the wall and even graffitti / signs will continue over the lictor (possibly with the lictor partly moulded into the wall to help the effect).

Epic
OK, there IS a god, and she's an Epic fan! Anyway, suffice to say that Epic is going to be re-released soon. I'm not sure what army to collect, they're all tempting! So, in the mean time so conversion / diorama ideas

  • Artillery battery. A serious one here: a half dozen heavy artillery pieces in hardened emplacements. I thought a nice snowy setting would be good. Might go as far as including camo-netting, probably made from Lizzie's tights (Shh! Don't tell!), plus bunkers, ammo trucks, much tread marking, campfires...
  • Pipes of peace. A game of footy, in No-man's Land, nuff said!
  • He shoots he scores! Silly piece, with titans playing football! With or without Premiership strips.
