Since my theme for this homepage is teddy bears,
the area of my search will be in the area of "bears."
With the big picture in my mind, keywords such as "teddy bear,"
or phrases like "bear design" will be used to do this search.
teddy bear AND history
In Yahoo!, a major search engine, there were a bundle of information, when the keyword "teddy bear" was used. To narrow down the area of search, "history" was added. The Boolean query gave pretty much an accurate and diverse result on the history of the stuffed animal.
When a subject directory search was done, many results came out from a variety of sources. However, Britannica was not concentrating on my main theme.
Searching for websites using phrases was more interesting than the normal work. I used Ask Jeeves what the history of the teddy bear was. The datas were similar with the ones I gathered from the results of Yahoo.
images Google Image Search was my second choice to search for images. My first was done in the Korean search engine, Naver Photo Album.
To find a picture of Pooky, the teddy bear of Garfield, I tried several keywords - Garfield, Pooky, Garfield + bear,Garfield + teddy, Garfield + Pooky.
The last keyword, "Garfield + Pooky," had the most relevant images that I could choose from. It took me a lot of time to look through all the pictures and made me worry of the work I had laid out.
In conclusion..
It was easier for me to use the serach engines I knew my way around.
Meta-search engines, like Vivisimo Clustering Engine were user-friendly; yet, my mouse clicked on the sites that I frequently used in daily life.
