Writing: Paradigm Online vs UW Madison Writing Center

"Paradigm Online" is a site that guides you to be a better writer. The site is divided into very detailed categories, where they have a concise explanation of how to go on with each stage of your essay. From brainstroming the ideas, they tell you how to organize, revise, edit your work. The source documenting stage is not to be forgotten. It also provides guidelines to four different types of essays - informal, thesis/support, argumentative and exploratory.

"UW Madison Writing Center" is a site provided by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. That is why it is more concentrated on helping students than Paradigm Online. Since this website has a narrower target than the previous site, it has somewhat of a diverse information for those writers. Introductions to the classes held in the university, other writing programs on and off campus are definite differences.


Vocabulary and Grammar: Activities for ESL Students vs A Word a Day

As a site for students who learn English as their second or foreign language, "Activities for ESL Students" it focuses on vocabulary and grammar. It has quizzes in different levels in both areas of the language. There are also crossword puzzles to relieve some stress from studying. A unique characteristic would the 35 bilingual quizzes where you can check your native vocabularies yourself.

"A Word a Day" is a vocalbulary site where you can learn a word each day. Definitions of the word is given with good examples from reliable sources, such as newspapers and novels. You can also see a quote with the day's word by recognized, if not famous, people. The audio files will help you with your pronunciation, if you need help enunciating it.
