This is the first "almost" buyer family we had
.....  thought I would share to show just how important a deposit is.

On July 7, 2010 at 11:00 am, we received this letter:

Hello,
My wife and I are looking for a red Doberman puppy.  Just wanted to know if you had any upcoming litters or knew of a good breeder that does?  We live in Asheville, NC but don't mind driving for top quality breeders. We have heard you guys are one of the best and would like your advise on this. Right now we just have an Italian Greyhound. He is a great dog but we do a lot of hiking, backpacking, and outdoors stuff better suited for a bigger dog. I have always loved Dobermans since I was a kid and now in the position to get one.
Thanks for your help,
--
Adam

Now we did a couple of days of emailing back and forth, we very cordially answered all questions on the health of the parents and tests we had done.  Offered our normal vet references from east to west NC, and Adam confirmed on Thursday evening, 7/8, that he would drop a deposit check in the mail by that Saturday.  We talked to 3 other people in the next couple of days wanting that last red male pup in the litter and told them we were holding him waiting for Adams' deposit.  When we didn't see his deposit by the Tuesday afternoon mail, I emailed him to make sure he had posted it that past Saturday.  Keep in mind, we had not gotten any communication from him since that past Thursday night confirming the sale.

Adam wrote back almost immediately that he had gone to the beach for the weekend and had not mailed the check, but would drop it right in the mail.  I wrote back 41 minutes later to say that he needed to hold off as we had another person interested since he had not mailed his deposit the prior Saturday as stated.  We hold pups a week after confirmation, waiting for deposit checks.  Adam's week would be up tomorrow, Wednesday.  Immediately, he wrote to say he had just mailed the check (how convenient) and it would be here before his week was up.  Nope, mail doesn't get here in a day so I explained to him that I would gladly return the check, unopened, to save him any stop payment charge at the bank.  We don't keep any money on pups we don't sell.

Long story short, Adam decided to get ugly and say what a horrible business we have and that we probably don't take care of our pups and he was going to spread the word to all his friends and vets about how unprofessional we are.  All because HE didn't drop a check in the mail for a deposit to hold the pup, KNOWING we had a waiting list and this was the last red pup we had.

Sounds like very sour grapes to me.  I pity the poor doberman breeder who DOES get to deal with him because they are going to have one hard time with that one.  I don't understand people.  When you specifically state that you require a $100 deposit to hold the pup for them, and give them the mailing address, what exactly does that mean?  It doesn't mean you'll send the check the next week, or the week after.  It means you drop the check in the mail right away to hold the pup.

The ONLY reason this pup was even offered to Adam was because the person in front of him on the list didn't mail a deposit check either.  And I told Adam that, so he KNEW, more than anyone else, that he had to send a check right away.  And when someone says they are going to mail a deposit check by Saturday, and still doesn't mail it by the following Tuesday, just what else would they lie about?

So when you see anything negative written about us by Adam Burnette of Asheville, NC, just consider the source.  He brought the lost sale on himself by not doing what he said he was going to do.

And since he has threatened to hack my website, I now have a Federal charge I can post against him.  Threatening a business is not a joke and I have it in writing from his email and his IP address.

This individual continues to harass and threaten me through email, so I will be contacting a lawyer and filing Federal charges against him for his threats.  He thinks it's funny, but in todays' day and age, internet threats against people are taken seriously.  So again, I'm thrilled that we came to our senses early enough that one of our pups did not get stuck in that environment because this is ONE SICK INDIVIDUAL!
