This
is my first half stack. There is a picture of it being build on the right.
It was made out of some wood that was kicking around. The sides are 3/4"
plywood and the front, back, top and bottom are particle board. I took
the dimensions from my friend Daves' Randal half stack. This beast is covered
with black and gray carpet. Packed in there are Carvin British lead 12's.
Then for Christmas of '99 I got a Fender Roc Pro head. I couldn't have
a black tolex head with a gray carpet cabinet, so I decided to make a new
one. This one would have the same dimensions, be covered in tolex, and
have a grill.
The New One DIMENSIONS
Here
you can see the sides, top and bottom are cut out and put together. Its
all 3/4" plywood. To assemble them you should use glue and screws.
The more screws and glue you use the better. On the first half stack I
made I didn't countersink the screws. That's ok because I covered it in
carpet, but this bad boy will be covered with tolex. If we didn't countersink
the screw heads would be visible through the tolex. In this picture you
can see the holes are predrilled and countersunk. After the whole cabinet
is assembled the counter sinks will be filled with puddy and sanded smooth.

Here is a picture of the entire cabinet assembled.
All the edges have been routed with a 3/8" round over bit. You can see
that I filled all the countersinks and also the seam where the two baffles
come together. All the joints are caulked too. Before you start wrapping
it with your covering you should paint where the seams will be. That way
if there is a little gap it'll be harder to notice because the wood will
be the same color as the covering. The front won't be covered either, so
that was painted black too. Don't worry, there will be a grill.
Well here is that beast covered in tolex. Handles and
corners have been installed. To make the grill I took 3/4" round over molding
and made a frame that fit inside the front recess. Then after that you
stretch grill cloth around it and attach it to the backside of the grill.
I used upholstry tacks. Then I put velcro on the corners and slipped it
into the cabinet. That's it.
