My McCullough Ancestors
This section provides life sketches of my McCullough family ancestors.
Thelma Elizabeth McCullough
My paternal grandmother was Thelma Elizabeth McCullough. Thelma was born in Homestead, Allegeny Co, PA on April 26, 1903 the daughter of Elmer E. McCullough and Sylvia Willard. Thelma was a school teacher when she married my grandfather Charles Leo Melzer November 12, 1926. Thelma and Charles eventually settled in Effingham, Effingham Co, IL. Both Thelma and Charles are buried in St. John' s Lutheran Cemetary in Effingham. Thelma died February 3, 1979.
Thelma and Charles had the following children:
- Charles Melzer Jr.
- John Louis Melzer
- Donald Melzer (died in infancy)
Elmer E. McCullough married Sylvia Willard.
Elmer E. McCullough worked in the steel mills of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois. His last employer was the American Steel Company of Granite City, Illinois. Elmer E. McCullough died about 1947 in Granite City, Madison Co, IL. He was cremated and later buried with his spouse Sylvia Willard around 1953. They are buried in Elyria, OH.
