Walt Disney was advised by his brother, Roy Disney, to go back to his studios in Hollwood and come up with a new character due to cartoon budget cuts. Walt's wife, Lilly is credited for renaming Mortimer as Mickey. Steamboat Willie premiered in New York on November 18, 1928. Seven and a half minutes long, the cartoon drew better reviews than that of the major full-length films released that week. Within weeks Mickey Mouse was a nationwide sensation. Three years later he would be a national institution.
In 1938, Disney hit on the idea of starring Mickey in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a concert piece by Paul Dukas. Disney bought the music rights and originally thought it would just be another short. It was too expensive to release as a short and with the help of Leopold Stokowski, the two of them came up with the idea of Fantasia - an anthology of serious music illustrated by animation.

Here are a few films that from Mickey Mouses's resume.
