House of Nathan - a Christian home for pregnant women
The founder of the House of Nathan, is Beth Elliot who has a home for pregnant women in Toowoomba. Many of the women who come to Beth are homeless or in an abusive relationship, and desperately need help. Beth's own motivation comes from having been pregnant herself at the 15 years old and the child was adopted out.
The maximum is three women with no restrictions on how long they can stay. The organisation receives only occasional funding - Beth and her volunteers do not get paid. Life plans are worked out in regards to education etc.. If the women are self harming, Beth will pull them into line. House of Nathan 4636 6801 or [email protected]. (Date of update- May 2007)

This is a national trend to move away from Hostels and more toward shared accommodation as the administrators said they did not like people moving frequently from one town to the next.)

ALTHOUGH THIS IS IN SYDNEY - THIS MODEL IS RELEVANT TO THE WORLD.

MEN’S EMERGENCY ACCOMMODATION IN SYDNEY.
"Mission Australia Centre" - Surry Hills. 19 Denham St Surry Hills NSW 2010 Tel: (02) 9356 0600
"Mission Australia Centre" has accommodation for 40 homeless men for up to 3 months. Everyone is waiting to see if this will work. Cost $7 million. Used to be "Campbell House" in inner city Sydney for 25 years (circa 1980) which the incoming director described "Campbell House" as having "smelt and felt bad". She said "Campbell House had up to 110 beds per night. Most clients were about 55 years old and had alcohol problems. In 2007 the homeless person has changed into someone about 32 years old with drug related problems with mental health issues. Now they have music studio which makes CD’s and art studio so paintings are made." Prime Minister John Howard visited in Sep 2005. There is a dentist surgery there. Centre only takes homeless people who have not been on streets for less than 4 years when there is a chance to break the cycle. Mission House have a requirement where men do classes called SMART or "Self Management and Recovery Training". Permanent accommodation through government housing typically is sought for clients. As much as possible, jobs as well. If you get caught with drugs inside then centre rules demand that you leave straight away.
