The North Carolina State Flag

Here are some interesting facts about the North Carolina State Flag!!!

• The "May 20th, 1775" refers to the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.

• The "April 12th, 1776" refers to the date of the Halifax Resolves, a document that places North Carolina at the forefront of the independence movement.

• The "April 12th, 1776" was originally "May 20th, 1861," commemorating North Carolina's date of secession from the Union.

• North Carolina did not have a state flag until May 20, 1861...when we seceded from the union.

• The original flag had the colors of the blue field and red bar transposed!!

• The flag has not changed since 1885.
