I lived in Guilford County, and specifically Greensboro, for about 4 years and still consider myself to live "in the area". My wife and I now reside in Archdale, NC...just on the Randolph County side of the Guilford / Randolph line (and I mean just over!! I could hit my driver into Guilford County!)
I moved to this part of the world in 1988, taking a job in Randleman, NC (25 miles south of Greensboro in Randolph County). After getting established I moved to Greensboro because I wanted to live in a "big" city. Although Greensboro is not a very large city in terms of the rest of the world (only the third largest in NC), to a country boy from Forest City, it is a pretty large place.
Another thing that draws me to Greensboro, High Point and this area is the history. Everything from a major battle (skirmish?) in the Revolutionary War (the Battle of Guilford Courthouse) to the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement (the sit-ins at the Woolworth Lunch Counter), Greensboro has seen a lot of history. Within these pages, I will attempt to capture some of the smell of its history and taste of its present.
For the history side, I will include pages on the Historical Markers, Battle of Guilford Courthouse & Civil Rights Sit-Ins amongst others. For the current city, I will include pictures of important buildings, a list of my favorite restaurants (& maybe some not so favorites), details of the elements of the city (for example, government, education, leisure opportunities), and maybe some words on the sports teams of the community.
