STANDARD CATALOG OF WORLD COINS (Krause)
As the name says, this is THE standard catalog for general world coinage, including Turkey. Complete listing of circulation, commemorative, and gold coins (as well as mint sets and a few patterns) with catalog reference numbers, phyical characteristics, mintage statistics, and lots of B/W photos. Market prices listed in up to four grades. Excellent as a base reference, and universally known, but lacks info on varieties that advanced collectors may need. Also, some early Republic (1930s-1940s) and FAO coins are severely undervalued (these have been selling for twice their catalog value or more recently), and on the other end later issues seem ridiculously overvalued (new coins are automatically listed at $3.00 or more, even though their actual face values are mere pennies--all you have to do is make a friend in Turkey and they can get you these coins from the bank for next to nothing!).
STANDARD CATALOG OF WORLD PAPER MONEY (Pick)
Again, generally considered THE standard catalog for world banknotes, including Turkey. Complete listing of banknotes with catalog reference numbers, descriptions, and lots of photos. Market prices listed in up to four grades. Also an excellent base reference, however the banknotes are classified by type only and usually not by serial letters or signature varieties so the advanced collector will be better served by one of the Turkish catalogs. This also creates a problem in the pricing. For example, a 500 Lira note of the 6th Emission is listed at $15 for the entire series; however, in Turkey the more common series have a market value of only about $5 while the rare "D" series can fetch $300-$500 or more. Also, as with the Krause coin catalog, new issues seem ridiculously overvalued considering that their face values are significantly less.
PARA (Fisekcioglu, Guvendik)
This famed Turkish numismatist publishes this price guide annually. No photos in the main section (although the latest addition does include a colour photo section in the back of new issues and recent acquisitions), but all known circulation coins, commemorative coins, mint sets, medals, jetons (tokens) and banknotes of the Republic (as well as the last 6 Ottoman Sultans) are meticulously listed in detailed charts (coded to correspond to the reference numbers from his Turkish Republic Coins catalog--see bibliography). Prices are listed in US$ in up to 3 grades, although due to the volatile nature of the Turkish Lira these prices aren't always very reliable. Since medals and tokens are included, coin varieties are listed, and the banknote listings are broken down by serial letter and signatures, this catalog is excellent for filling in the gaps of the "standard" international catalogs (Krause and Pick).
TURKiYE CUMHURiYETi PARALARI (Deniz, Mehmet Nurcan)
Another Turkish price catalog that has come out recently, this one published by Berrak Numismatics, suspiciously similar in format to the PARA catalog above. A few extra colour photo sections make this catalog a bit more attractive, but the tables are basically the same. The material covered and information presented is almost identical to the catalog above, with one notable exception; the prices! Apparently Turkish dealers were complaining that the prices in the PARA catalog were too low compared to current market values, but this catalog seems to err on the other side of that; some of the prices listed seem pretty outrageous ($80 for a 1966 mint set? These have been selling on ebay for $10 or less!) In any case, the prices published in either of these catalogs (or any other Turkish catalog) should not be too heavily relied upon by anybody outside of Turkey, because out of control inflation and the consistently diminishing value of the Lira mean that any price converted to US$ will be outdated within months, if not weeks.
