We are aware outside of Denizli Dolapci is considered to be donek but in Denizli they are definitely are kept as separate breeds. This separation has been done by our breeders for many years and they have been named as different breeds.

To compare Dolapci with other breeds to describe it, you would have to compare it to Doneks for physical qualities and to Kelebeks for flight style. They are shorter and have shorter legs compared to Doneks but stand tall where Doneks stand is more parallel to the ground. Dolapci can be seen in almost in any color but the beak color always depends on the body color. However, both black and white beaks can be seen on black birds. There can be any eye color including the wild yellow. Even though the males always carry their wings above the tail, females most of the time carry their wings below. Their tails consists of 14 to 16 feathers and the "V" shape is considered to be a good quality for this breed. As a breed, it is believed that the ones with out the oil gland give better results. Dolapcis are more resistant to illnesses compared to Doneks and are better parents.

Dolapci are kept in Denizli as kit fliers. When flown with Azmans, also flown in kits, they fly mostly higher then them and at times in the same level. If the kit consists of Dolapcis only they will stay above the loft and gain altitude quickly in an unorganized manner. Even though they don't fly as a tight kit like Azmans, they also don't fly separated like Kelebeks. During flight the movements of their wings are much harder than Doneks. They also don't show the extreme response Doneks show to the droppers. Doves, wild birds or droppers from other lofts never confuse Dolapcis. Because of this they are tested for their homing ability from distances of 10 to 15 kilometers in Denizli. Main reason for this attention is the mixing of kits every afternoon through out the city. Regardless of the quality of performance in a Dolapci it has to be very royal to its loft.

Regardless of the altitude the Dolapci flies, as soon as it sees the dropper starts its dive. This dive is done as a nosedive while keeping the wings completely open and spinning in spirals towards the loft. As thigt and fast as the spirals get the more liked and named as "rapid dolap". Birds that draw wide spirals and dive slowly are named "firtikci" as rather lazy and are not liked. The characteristic 2-3 meters long quick spin of Doneks is not seen with Dolapcis. They dive much faster and in a rapid fashion than Kelebeks. As you know the Doneks spin while their wings closed or open half way for 2 to 3 meters in a very tight spin around themselves and require a certain height and degree of dive to the ground. Dolapci follow the spirals and do not reguire any height or degree. The birds mixed with Doneks dive with a spin like move but never complete it.

Compared to calm Doneks Dolapcis are more skittish and the young birds require a close watch when flown the first few times. As the young birds get trained in kits, they learn quickly and adjust. When the young birds are flown a few times with out any mixing with other fancier's kits, they will gain the confidence of the fancier as a dependable flier.

Most liked colors are white selfs, yamali (merely means patched), cil (almond) and akkuyruk ( white tail). Akbas-akkuyruk (baldhead-white tail) pattern commonly seen in Doneks is also can be seen in Dolapci frequently. The crested varieties that have been surfacing in last few years are the ones crossed with Yugoslavian breed. Dolapcis never have any foot feathering.

It is known that the wealth families took their birds to the Balkans as the Ottomans conquered these lands. In several sources it is clearly evident that even today some of the the best Donek breeders in the Balkan countries are old Turkish fanciers. After the establishment of Turkish republic many Turkish families returned to Turkey with their birds. As we know the Donek was brought back to Turkey in this manner but Dolapci was always in our lofts.
It is a great possibility that these two breeds are close family members that were seperated for many years.
