My Story
We started the journey in November 1998.  John's blue truck pulled up and I could see that my temporary mom and dad were sad when they handed me over to him.  I knew I would miss them and my sister, Tess.  But the truck was warm and John's touch was gentle.  I could get up in the bed and look out the front window.  Mostly, I stayed on the seat - right next to John.  He had a hiding place where he kept treats for me.  It didn't take me long to figure out where he was keeping them!  He told me there was this special lady named Cassy, who made those just for me!
I loved the newspaper he bought that first day we traveled the highway together, although I don't think he was very happy when   I "killed" it!  He kept mumbling something about "tiny terrorist" - whatever that meant.  Another one of my favorite games was to hide under a large sheet of newspaper on the bed.   We had so much fun; he was such a neat friend.
Everytime we stopped, he would take me out and let me run and stretch my legs.  At these stops there was always a building where he would take me with him.  It had a sign that said, "M-E-N".  Soon we were back in the truck and moving again.  At one stop, he told me I would have to stay in the truck and he put me in my crate.  But I knew how to get to his heart.....I just sat there looking forlorn and used my best "sad eye" whenever he looked back at me.  Worked like a charm!.........he came back and took me out of my crate so I could sit in the driver's seat to wait and watch for him.  I really missed him when he was gone and I was so glad to see him when he came back!
One day, we drove into a lot of white stuff; I think he called this stuff "snow."  It was cold and wet, and when I got out of the truck, my legs went in all directions at once!  Boy was it hard to stand up!  John was laughing at me - he mumbled something about "Bambi."  When I finally figured out how to stay upright, he took me over to a BIG pile of that stuff.  We had so much fun playing and sliding in it.
I did my very best to steal John's heart.  I think I succeeded because when we pulled into Chicago I thought I saw a tear in his eye; I didn't want to leave him either.
Pam and her husband were waiting for me with open arms.  They took me home with them for a few days until my mom could come and get me.  I had fun playing with Bart, Pam and her husband.
When my new mom came to get me, we had to travel a long time.  On the way, she stopped and took me into a building with a sign that read, "W-O-M-E-N."  Boy was I confused!!!  Then, she let me and my new brother, Raleigh, play together for a few minutes.  I "herded" Raleigh all over the place, but he didn't seem to mind.  When I arrived home, I was so tired that I curled up in my crate and went to sleep with lots of happy dreams!  I miss you, John.  Keep checking back to see the pictures my mom takes of me, and my accomplishments as I grow up!
