ASIA PACIFIC GAMES FOR THE DEAF (APGD) |
Brief History
In 1983, Far Eastern Deaf Football Championship was held in
Taipei, Taiwan. Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan participated in the
Championship. It was a beginning for the growth of Deaf sports in the Asia
Pacific region. The First Asia Pacific Deaf Football Championship
was held in 1984 by Comite International des Sports des Sourdes
(CISS). At the
Third Asia Pacific Deaf Football Championship held on 27 March
1988 in Melbourne, Australia, the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation (APDSC)
was founded by CISS to promote Deaf sports in the Asia Pacific region. A
resolution was then made to change the name from Asia Pacific Deaf
Football Championship to Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf. This event would be
held every four year.
